Horace Mann's Reforms

Why Mann's work made a difference in history:

Legacy

Horace Mann held a very influential postition in changing public schools in America. He brought tax-funded, nonsectarian schools into a time of reform in Massachusetts. One of the more radical ideas of his was to set up a series of normal schools, built to train teachers before they went off on their own. All of these reforms spread like wildfire to other parts of the state, and eventually all throughout America.

Without Mann's push for a change in the education system, the U.S. may not have seen as much industrial, commercial, or economic success leading into the 20th century.
