   Horace Mann was an education reformer that standardized schooling and brought a higher level of learning to the students.

>  Horace Mann:  1796 –1859

​>   Born in Frankiln, Massachusetts

​>   Grew up in poverty

​>   Served as secretary on Massachusetts’s           first Board of Education, where he was         able to exercise his influential power

​>   Promoted a system of Common Schools         that would be paid for by the public

​>   Highly influential in the setup of a                   teacher training program, known as             normal schools

​>   Made education more available to the             poor, increased the productivity of               teachers, and changed the education             system
